Michael stretched, a slow, deliberate movement that worked its way from his toes to his fingertips. He leaned back in his chair, the leather cool against his back. The application was finished, the interview went swimmingly. He'd even remembered the hiring manager's name.

He glanced around his meticulously organized apartment. Everything was in its place, reflecting the quiet order he craved. He picked up his book, a well-worn copy of a classic novel. He had the afternoon free, and the promise of a sunny day. He decided to read in the park.

A message notification pinged. It was from Sarah.

"Hey, heard back yet?"

Michael typed a quick reply, "Nope. You?"

"No. Ugh. I'm going crazy," the reply came instantly.

He smiled. "Just breathe. It'll happen when it happens." He closed the laptop. Time to enjoy the quiet.
